Egg Free Gluten-Free Bread Recipes
Baking gluten-free can be tricky especially if you are allergic to eggs. However, gone are the days when eggs were the only binding solution to glutenless bread!
With the discovery of xanthan gum and psyllium husk, eggs became unnecessary unless you make a brioche loaf.
Best egg substitutes in bread
It is popular to swap eggs with chia or flax eggs, applesauce, or mashed bananas. However, those substitutes are limited and frequently compromise the end result.
If you need a thorough guide to egg-free baking, I recommend checking out "The Elements of Baking" on Amazon.
Here you will find recipes that are designed without eggs and thus don't need any egg substitutes!
Yeasted loaves
These recipes reflect the traditional loaf bread baked either in a bread pan or a Dutch oven for a caramelized crust. Most of these rely on psyllium husks for binding.
International yeasted bread
Aside from loaf bread, you can make focaccia, pull-apart Turkish bread, pita pockets, pizza, and even bagels without eggs.
Sourdough bread
Gluten-free sourdough bread is a whole other beast but it is also largely made without eggs (although my top gluten-free sourdough has them).
To make sourdough you will need a gluten-free starter that takes about 14 days to grow at home.
